The Best Countertop Manual Water
Purifier Distiller: EcoPure
MegaHome MH943

Who Needs It?

This water purifier distiller is for those who desire the highest level of purification of any type of system and who don't mind the slowness of the process. You want quality water for just a single or a couple. You want distilled water at an affordable price. Distilled water is boiled till it evaporates and then condenses through cooling. Any substances that do not evaporate are left behind. Distillers remove the widest variety of pollutants from water of any single purification method. The one class of pollutants not removed are volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) which evaporate. These VOCs are removed by passing the water through a small granular filter.

Its Claim to Being "Best"

Colin Ingram, an expert on all aspects of drinking water, in his book The Drinking Water Book, gives this water purifier distiller a rating of "Excellent", his highest class rating for filters. He says, "This is the most widely sold distiller in the world. It has many quality features in spite of its low price."

Its Features/Advantages

  • It is an air cooled, lightweight, portable unit.

  • It comes with a 1 gallon, polycarbonate collecting bottle.

  • It gives you 1 gallon of distilled water in 5 hours.

  • The stainless steel boiling chamber is easily accessible for cleaning, which is needed periodically depending on the hardness of your water and how quickly residue builds up.

  • It is not certified by NSF International or other international groups.

Disadvantages

There are several disadvantages to this water purifier distiller. It is not certified by the NSF International or other international organizations. It is really slow, taking 5 hours to give you 1 gallon of distilled water. Also, it is so thorough in removing everything from the water that it even removes the natural and healthy minerals from your water as well as the contaminants. The cost per gallon can be an issue depending on the cost of electricity in your community. This unit uses 580 watts of electricity. Distillation in general is electricity intensive.
