Who Needs It?

For best water treatment, this kind of filter may be for you. It is for those who are looking for a simple solution to improving their water quality. You don't mind that the filtering process is slow and you like cold, refrigerated water. If you like the fact that you don't have to install a filter. You don't need much filtered drinking water, enough for one or two people. You want something with little up front cost. Your water is already safe, but you want the added protection.

(Note: that though I have cited only the DS-1800Z, there are a multiplicity of other models which use the same CRF-950z water filter such as the CR-600c, CR-800, CR-830, CR-930, CR-1500, CR-1510, CR-5000, CR-6000 and CR-6000z.)

Many of these reviews cited the PUR Ultimate Pitcher as the simplest solution to most water quality issues. To realize best water treatment, it uses a dual filtration system and removes almost as many contaminants as the PUR 3-Stage Vertical Faucet Mount.

Its Features/Advantages

• The pitcher will hold 8 to 10 cups of water, adequate for a couple.
• There's no need to install anything. Just begin using it and store it in the fridge.
• It will filter one gallon of water in 30 minutes with the use of gravity alone.
• It's certified to reduce a broad range of contaminants including cysts. The competing Brita filter cannot reduce cysts.
• It filters out particles larger than 5 microns.

Its Disadvantages

It filters water slowly, one gallon per half hour. So it's not effective in providing a family with an adequate supply of drinking water. There's not enough filtered water for covering cooking needs. It's not certified to reduce lead in your water. It also clogs well before its claimed 40 gallons according to the reviewers.
